Can I Treat my child’s cough and stuffy nose with cough and cold medications?

This is not a good idea. During colds, coughing and stuffy/runny nose are the body’s natural way of fighting and clearing infection. It is not necessary to suppress this natural and effective response. Furthermore, the use of cough and cold medication in children has been shown to be harmful … in some cases causing sudden death. Finally, these medications have been shown to be ineffective in children. Because treating cough and congestion with cold and cough medicine isn’t necessary, doesn’t work, and can be dangerous, it is not recommended.
