Winter is coming, but it’s not too early to start thinking about summer camp for 2015. Every summer, thousands of Toronto area children head out of the city to enjoy the great outdoors that Ontario has to offer. In addition to the fresh air and fun activities, it is a great way to foster independence and form new friendships.  Unfortunately, because of dietary restrictions and safety concerns, many children with severe food allergies don’t get to attend summer camp. In addition to missing out on a lot of fun, this exclusion may lead food allergic children to feel “different” then other kids and isolated in the activities they can participate in. By offering a food allergy camp to these children, we can provide a safe and inclusive environment for these children to make friends and have fun.

We are in the planning stages of setting up an integrated  summer camp  experience for 20-30 children with food allergies aged 6-14yo at Camp Tamarack in Muskoka in 2015 with dates to be determined.  We will be having our first information session in a few weeks on Sunday, December 7th, at 7pm at Kindercare Pediatrics (301 – 491 Eglinton Avenue West). At this session, we intend to gauge interest in the camp and to give further details about costs and logistics.
